Summary. Memora has no server and no account, and SM NexStudio receives nothing from the app: no analytics, no ads, no crash reports. The people, dates, notes and wishes you add stay in the app’s private storage. Memora goes online only to download festival dates from Google’s public holiday calendars and to check GitHub for app updates, and neither request carries anything about you or your contacts.

Who we are

Memora is an open-source birthday, anniversary and festival reminder app for Android, published on GitHub by SM NexStudio. It reminds you of the occasions you add and prepares a wish you can send yourself on WhatsApp, SMS or email. This policy covers the Android app, version 1.0.0 and later.

Data we collect

None. Memora has no server of its own, so there is nowhere for your data to come to us.

  • No personal information, no account and no sign-in.
  • No device or advertising identifiers.
  • No usage analytics, telemetry or crash reports.
  • No advertising SDKs.

What leaves your device

Reminders, wishes, postcards, lunar dates and the widget all work offline. These are the only requests Memora makes, and when. We never see any of them.

WhenWhat is sentSent to
On first start, when you change festival calendars, and when the next year’s dates are neededA download request for each holiday calendar in use (India by default; its name is in the address)Google (Google Calendar’s public holiday feeds), over HTTPS
Once a week, or when you tap Check for updatesA request for the latest Memora releaseGitHub (public releases API), over HTTPS
You choose to install an updateA download request for the new APK and its checksumGitHub, over HTTPS

Like any web request, these show Google or GitHub your IP address and that the request came from Memora. They contain no names, dates, phone numbers, notes or other details you added. You can turn off automatic update checks in Settings.

What the app keeps on your device

Everything below stays in the app’s private storage, which other apps cannot read.

  • People and events: names, dates, years if you know them, and the phone number or email you add for sending wishes.
  • Notes: the About note, gift ideas and gifts given for each person.
  • Wish history: which cards you sent or skipped, and how each person likes to be wished.
  • Festival dates for this year and next, downloaded from the calendars you picked.
  • Settings, including reminder times, theme and widget options.
  • Your Memora PIN, stored only as a salted PBKDF2 hash, never the PIN itself.

Your contacts

Memora asks for access to your contacts only when you import birthdays and anniversaries, or to suggest a match while you type a name or phone number. It reads them on your phone and saves only the people and dates you choose. Your contact list is never uploaded or copied in full. You can say no and add everyone by hand; every other feature still works.

Sending wishes

Memora never sends a message by itself. It opens WhatsApp, your SMS app or your email app with the wish filled in, and you tap send. From that point the app you chose handles the message, under its own privacy policy.

  • Postcards are drawn on your phone. A card picture shared with another app is kept in Memora’s cache and deleted after a day.
  • Card pictures are saved to Pictures/Memora in your gallery only if you turn that on.

App lock

You can lock Memora with your fingerprint, your phone’s screen lock or a Memora PIN. Fingerprints are checked by Android; Memora never sees them. While Memora is locked:

  • It is hidden from screenshots and the Recents screen.
  • Its notifications are marked private, so the lock screen does not show names.
  • The widget shows a count and the next date, nothing at all, or full details, as you choose in Settings → Widget.

App updates

Memora checks GitHub for a new release once a week, or when you tap Settings → About Memora → Check for updates. It downloads an update only when you ask, installs it only after Android asks you to confirm, and refuses any file that does not match the release’s SHA-256 checksum or is not signed with the same key as the Memora you have. You can skip a version or turn automatic checks off.

Permissions

  • INTERNET: to download festival dates and check GitHub for updates.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS: to show your reminders.
  • USE_EXACT_ALARM and RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED: to fire reminders at the time you set, and set them again after a restart or a time-zone change.
  • READ_CONTACTS: to import birthdays and look up numbers, only when you use those features.
  • USE_BIOMETRIC: to unlock Memora with your fingerprint, if you turn on app lock.
  • REQUEST_INSTALL_PACKAGES: to install a Memora update you chose, after Android asks you to confirm.

It does not ask for location, camera, microphone, call log or SMS-reading permissions.

Third-party services and code

Memora contains no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting code. It is built on Android’s own Jetpack libraries. The only outside services it talks to are Google Calendar’s public holiday feeds and GitHub’s public releases, as listed above. When you send a wish, WhatsApp, your SMS app or your email app handles it under its own terms.

Backup and deletion

Android cloud backup is turned off for Memora, so nothing is copied off your phone automatically. To move to a new phone, use Settings → Back up: you choose where the file goes, such as Google Drive or your phone’s storage, and the policy of that place applies.

  • Protect the file with a password (at least 6 characters) and it is encrypted with AES-256-GCM. Without a password it is a readable file, so keep it somewhere private.
  • Your Memora PIN is never included in a backup.

Delete a person or event in the app at any time. Uninstalling Memora removes everything it stored, except backup files and card pictures you saved yourself. There is nothing to delete on our side.

Children

Memora is not directed at children under 13. It collects no data from anyone, including children.
